We are a local of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), representing approximately 39,000 resident physicians who are dedicated to improving residency training and education, advancing patient care, and expanding healthcare access for our communities. CIR’s mission is to empower our nation’s interns, residents and fellows to fight for excellence for our patients. 

Job Summary 
The Committee of Interns and Residents is looking for a Campaign Coordinator for its New England Region who will focus on CIR’s Boston-based chapters. This position will be responsible for assisting, leading, coaching, and mentoring CIR staff in the Boston area in addition to their own chapter assignments. The Campaign Coordinator will report to the New England Regional Director.

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate and implement campaign plans that build strong contracts, increase membership and develop member-leaders
  • Work with organizers and member leaders on worksite campaigns, petitions, unity breaks, and escalations tactics that build member unity
  • Build a culture within the membership that focuses on growth and participation by creating effective partnerships, communicating effectively, and empowering workers
  • Lead regional field campaigns
  • Conduct system-wide internal and sometimes external organizing campaigns by developing and managing workplace committees, coalition partnerships, and issue organizing 
  • Coordinate between regional hospital contracts, issues, and advocacy
  • Implement regional field strategy and bargaining plans 

What Makes a Great Candidate

  • Three years experience in contract organizing and representational organizing including one year experience in campaign management
  • Minimum of three years as a team lead
  • A passion for healthcare issues and a vision of healthcare justice that incorporates the social determinants of health, including the evolving healthcare workforce, poverty, racial and immigrant justice, gun violence, public health, and support for the healthcare safety-net
  • Healthcare experience preferred, but not required
  • Electoral campaign experience is desirable, but not required
  • Regional bargaining experience preferred, but not required 
  • Understanding and creating resources to advance bargaining tables
  • Ability to design and implement creative and innovative strategies which result in membership growth and leadership development
  • Ability to facilitate the learning of others
  • Familiarity and basic knowledge with New York state labor law, libel/free speech laws, major laws related to health care industry and collective bargaining, unfair labor practices, mediation, and arbitration processes
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to motivate, build strong working relationships, and hold others accountable
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work environment that encourages personal responsibility, initiative, and innovation
  • Excellent independent judgment and ability to build relationships
  • Strong writing skills for clear and accurate drafting of petitions, employer correspondence, and leadership and member communications
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple high priority projects with competing deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts while maintaining important and effective relationships;
  • Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
  • Technologically savvy
  • Proficiency with Google products such as Gmail and Google Drive (docs & sheets) 
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and act proactively
  • The ability to thrive and operate in a fast-paced, mission-driven with quick thinking, energy, humor, flexibility, and above all professionalism
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse group of people, from union members to union staff and leaders
  • Ability to critically evaluate one’s own performance, incorporating feedback into improving performance
  • Ability to develop one’s own skills, acquire relevant knowledge and proactively seek opportunities to learn
  • Demonstrates respectful and responsible behavior
  • Strong planning and time management skills, ability to develop work plans with minimal supervision including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
  • Desire and commitment to advance the organization
  • Proactively identifies the needs of the organization and responds with solutions
  • Minimum 4-year degree (BA/BS) preferred but not required
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours including evenings and weekends
  • Must reside in the Boston area.
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be fully vaccinated for Covid in accordance with CDC guidelines, subject to any laws of the state in which the applicant resides.

CIR Offers 
Competitive salary ($104,820 - $126,688) commensurate with experience and in compliance with the staff collective bargaining agreement. Excellent benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage with no employee contributions; generous paid leave time including four weeks’ vacation within the first calendar year of employment, paid holidays, personal days, and sick days; short and long-term disability insurance; 401(k); defined benefit pension plan; and mileage reimbursement.
